Japanese language lessons

Why are the benefits of learning Japanese?

Understand Japanese culture

Japanese culture is fascinating and multi-faceted. While Japan maintains thousand-year-old traditions, and could be described as socially conversative, the country is also incredibly innovative, particularly in the technological and design space. Speaking the language allows you to explore Japanese history, martial arts, entertainment, culture and fashion.

Gateway to other Asian cultures and languages

Japanese history is intertwined with that of Korea, China and India. While each country has its own unique character, there are many similarities. From a linguistic perspective, Japanese and Korean are particularly similar.

International work opportunities

Japan is the third largest economy in the world, larger than that of Germany and the United Kingdom, which are ranked fourth and fifth largest respectively. Whether it is to work in Japan, or to conduct business with Japanese enterprises, Japanese is a very useful language to learn if you would like to enjoy international business success. Moreover, as the ninth most spoken language in the world, with 128 million people speaking it as their native language, Japan offers a wide potential customer base.

Technology

Japan is a world-leader in innovation and technology. It has produced advances in a wide range of technical industries, including videogames, robotics, automotive engines and display technology. It is highly advantageous to speak Japanese if you would like to explore a career in, or simply learn more about, technology.

Is Japanese a difficult language to learn?

There are many loan words

Thousands of English words have been borrowed into the Japanese language. If you already speak English, there are many words and phrases you can already begin to employ to make yourself understood when speaking with someone from Japan.

Grammar

There are many aspects of Japanese grammar that make it easier to learn than other languages. For instance, nouns do not have a gender and there is no future tense to learn. Nevertheless, there are some features of Japanese grammar that differ from other languages, such as word order, which is formed by stating subject-object-verb.

Kanji

Kanji are the characters used in the Japanese writing system. Chinese characters first introduced to Japan in the 5th century via Korea, Kanji can be difficult to learn for those who are not used to a logographic language system.
